After Hospice Care: Our Bereavement Services

Bereavement services are an essential component of the hospice program. Grief is a natural and complex reaction to the death of a loved one. Survivors struggle with emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and economic changes. Our programs offer various healthy environments in which family members can feel safe and accepted while navigating through this difficult time.

At Redmond-Sisters Hospice, our bereavement programs and services are open to the entire Central Oregon community not just to the family members of Redmond-Sisters Hospice patients. Whether you are dealing with your own grief or looking for ways to help a friend, you are welcome to visit our Resource Library located in the front lounge of our office for books or tapes to help you better understand the grief journey.

Grief Support in Schools:
Redmond-Sisters Hospice offers bereavement support groups for children of all ages in the Redmond, Tumalo, and Sisters schools. For more information please call our bereavement coordinator at: 541.548.7483.

Camp Sunrise is a camp for children age 7- 14 in Central Oregon who have experienced the recent death of a loved one. The camp is open to 40 children each year who reside in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson Counties and is free of charge.

Camp Sunrise provides an emotionally safe and supportive environment. Structured games, music, art, stories and other therapies teach bereaved campers about grief and how to better understand their feelings. With support from professionally trained staff members and volunteers, children share their experiences and gain skills that can help them through the healing process. Youth are referred to the program from a variety of sources including schools, churches, counselors and organizations/agencies serving youth and families.

Before camp, Hospice counselors meet with the children and their caregivers to verify that the children are appropriate for this camp experience. During this time, we explain the purpose and premise of the program so that families are prepared to participate.

Parents are also invited to attend post-camp sessions in support of their children. These sessions are specially designed to strengthen the parents' understanding of their child's grief process and to provide skills that will help them to more effectively support the healing process.

For more information or for an application for camp please call our bereavement coordinator, at Redmond-Sisters Hospice, 541-548-7483.

Camp Sunrise is founded on the understanding that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a safe, supportive, and understanding environment. With loving support children grieving a death can share their experience with acceptance as they move through the healing process. Support for parents and caregivers will further enhance the grieving child's journey to health.
